We are having problems with AA and NA taking over our parks with daily meetings.
Children playing in the park can hear them and the playground is close to the Pavilion that they sit at and talk! Can you help at all with any advice to combat this problem? There are convicted felons coming to these meetings as well. Many people just think these group are no threat to our parks.

Although children have been around meetings for as long as I can remember, whenever this was the case, they were in a room playing and a responsible adult or group of them, was the way it went. I have what I now call interuppted sobriety/clean time/eating disorder free, been to some steady years of Alanon along the way but this children thing…when did it become OK for someone to bring their child into a closed AA meeting? There are few enough rules in the traditions but there is that anonymity word mentioned here and there. And the child? Hasn’t the child already been traumatized by living with an addict primary caregiver so that to add the groups as they share,…c’mon…that’s child abuse. And it could be argued in court.

12steppf, Yes I so agree. Things need to be addressed! Children should not be sitting in meetings listening.

At the park nearby that AA And NA use we witness that many of them bring there children!
They are either running unsupervised in the park during the meeting or with the parents.
You can tall that many of these children have problems with the way they behave in the parks.
It outrages me that this is allowed. I dont think even adults in the general public should be subjected to the horror stories, bad language and cigarette butts galore. There is a time and place for everything as
the saying goes. These meetings are NO PLACE for children. These meetings should not be done in such a public forum like a park where others are effected and at risk from some of the members that attend. I think the groups really want the donations-so they let them bring kids! But the kids are at risk also from the 13 steppers who prey on the mothers who possibly could prey on there children as well.

I agree that without specific location, time and day of meeting it would be hard to monitor or have law enforcement monitor anything at all. The person making the report needs to call local law enforcement to make the complaint. This is the issue over and over. The victim or advocate for the child victim has to be willing to make the report, otherwise nothing is accomplished. Sorry, but this is true. Signed hadenough.
